Practical Rifle Operator (PRO)

1-Day Course

This one-day course is designed primarily with the needs of the hunter or sports shooter who uses non-restricted bolt action rifles, non-restricted semi-automatic carbines or lever action rifles in competition, hunting or wilderness defence. 

Skills showcased in this course range from the application of fundamental shooting skills through to use of the rifle at various distances and from various positions. Sling use will also be covered.

The instructor reserves the right to vet candidates based upon their abilities to ensure appropriate skill level for this course.

 

Topics to be covered include:

  • Manipulation of various platforms to optimize performance
  • Equipment selection
  • Use of iron sights, red dot optics and scopes
  • Sling usage
  • Snap shooting and sped shooting
  • Reloading and speed loading techniques
  • Target engagement from various positions
  • Target engagement from various distances
  • Multiple target engagements
  • Movement

 

Required Equipment:

  • Bolt action. lever action or Semi-automatic rifle with at least 2 magazines or stripper clips. Fixed magazines are also acceptable.
  • Reliable ammunition (minimum 250 rounds)
  • Eye and ear protection
  • You may elect to wear armour, knee pads and elbow pads and helmets or your hunting gear.
  • Cleaning kit and firearms lubricant
  • Lunch, snacks, water, small first aid kit
  • Clothing suitable for inclement weather
  • Pen and note pad.
